What it does
Chin filler adds projection to the point of the chin, and often a little height with it. It is usually a millilitre or two in one small area, and it changes the lower third of the face more per pound than anything else we do.
A chin that sits back makes the jaw look shorter, the neck look softer and the nose look bigger than it is. Bringing it forward a few millimetres improves the proportion of all three without touching any of them.
On men the shape matters as much as the volume. A male chin is squarer and wider at the base. Build a rounded, pointed chin on a man's face and it reads as wrong immediately, even to people who could not tell you why.
Same hyaluronic acid product as the jaw, same 12 to 18 months, and it dissolves if you want it gone.

Consultation, 10 minutes
A doctor looks at your profile properly, which is the view that matters here, and works out whether the chin, the jaw or both are doing it.

Numbing, 15 minutes
Cream first. The product contains a local anaesthetic as well.

Usually one or two millilitres, placed deep against the bone at two or three points. It is one of the quicker treatments we do.

Two weeks later
Free review. If it wants another half millilitre, that is the conversation, and often the answer is that it does not.
Aftercare, plainly
- Nothing strenuous for 24 hours.
- Expect the chin to feel firm at first. It softens as it settles.
- A small bruise at the injection point is common and short-lived.
- Two-week review as standard, adjustment included if it needs one.

Will I look done?
Not at a millilitre, and not if the shape is right. The chin is one of the more forgiving areas, because the change is structural rather than surface and because there is bone underneath to build against.
The way it goes wrong is chasing length. A chin projected too far forward looks odd in profile and everybody can see it. We build width and projection together, on a male shape, and we stop earlier than you would like on a first visit.

Questions
How long does it last?
Usually 12 to 18 months, depending on the area, the product and how quickly you metabolise it. Men often metabolise filler slightly faster than women, which is worth knowing before you compare notes with anyone.
Does it hurt?
It is uncomfortable rather than painful. We use numbing cream first, and the filler itself contains a local anaesthetic. Anti-wrinkle injections feel like a scratch and are over in a couple of minutes. Most men tell us it was less than they expected.
Is it reversible?
Yes. We use hyaluronic acid fillers, which can be dissolved with an enzyme. That is one of the main reasons we use them. Anti-wrinkle treatment is not dissolvable but it wears off on its own in three to four months.
Should I do the chin at the same time?
Usually yes. The jaw and the chin are one structure, and treating one without the other often looks slightly off. A doctor will tell you at the consultation whether you need both or just one.
Will I bruise?
You might. Any injection can bruise, and using a cannula rather than a needle reduces it a lot but does not remove it. If you have a wedding or a big meeting coming up, leave a week.
